A CAMPAIGN for connecting the cultures of RAIL, FARMING, & CRAFT

Art in Place

Abbey Kleinert made artist-designed, Union Depot and St. Paul Farmers Market-inspired reusable shopping bags for a weekend giveaway on the tracks of the Central Corridor.

Kleinert's project connected printmaking, the St. Paul Farmer’s Market, and the Union Depot stop in order to demonstrate how the culture of a train station depot can be identified with farmers, makers, and artists; making the depot itself a vibrant, sustainable, community of local goods and culture. The artist's inspiration for the project combined a passion for local food and goods, printmaking explorations, and personal experiences of train stations in other cultures.

Ideally, farmer’s market patrons will continue to use the totes both at market and around St. Paul, spreading the idea that a culture of rail transport is also a culture of access to local goods, services and art.
