Wacky Wheelers

Art in Place

Artists Mitchell Dose and Alicia Dvorak facilitated Wacky Wheelers, an open invitation to the community to create, decorate and illuminate a bicycle or other ‘rolling contraption’ for a large group ride through the University Avenue neighborhoods.

Bike-making workshops were offered to a youth group from the Frogtown Youth Farm and Market Project and to a high-school group from Gordon Parks High School. An afternoon event was held at Cycles for Change where the community decorated their bikes, culminating in a large group ride down University and through the local neighborhoods at the end of the event.

Join us for a community bicycle ride and art bike showcase! We'll be rolling out art bikes and re-imagined rolling contraptions created by Gordan Parks students and Frogtown Youth Farmers. Everyone is invited to come decorate their own bicycles with the free supplies provided and then ride with us as we bring color and fun to University Ave! We'll ride from Cycles for Change at 2pm and wind our way through the neighborhood to the Youth Farm site at 501 Lafond then back to Cycles for refreshments. The ride will be held at a family friendly pace and length. Together we will transform the construction zone into a vibrant, colorful parade route, reclaiming the space for people as the ride rolls down the street with outlandish contraptions, towering puppet-bikes, vibrant colors and noise makers.
